This morning we woke up to water in our backyard. My first thought was that it was raining. But I also thought that it was weird that not all of the back patio was wet. Let's just say my eyes are not always working with my brain early in the morning. I must admit it took me a minute to also realize that the sprinklers were on. That in itself is not unusual, but having standing water everywhere is. We had a minimum of 4 inches of water standing almost everywhere. (I guess now we know that most of our yard is level. Ha Ha)
Now we could look at this many ways: Yeah! We have a wading pool! Or maybe we are just getting a jump on the dry summer up ahead. Or maybe just maybe we are soaking the yard so we can pull out the weeds easier. (although this is exactly what I started doing this was not our intention) Or maybe reality will set in and we will find out the valve on the sprinkler got stuck wide open and we have been watering all night. I admit one of my thoughts was "I am so glad Randy was here when I discovered this."
We are not sure how many gallons were used or how expensive our flood irrigation will be. We are sure that it will take more that a day to dry out. Randy had to use the shovel to coax the water in the right direction(the street). Our front lawn now has a very "fashionable" ditch running down the side. I am now trying to figure out how to incorporate it into our landscaping. As Randy dug I casually said, "well now we can re-landscape the front yard like we wanted." I was shot down real fast when Randy just as casually said, "the grass will grow back." Oh well, a girl can dream.
I spent most of the day pulling weeds out of the rocks and the lawns (it is amazing how many weeds show up over night). I kind of enjoyed it. The weather was gorgeous and the weeds pulled out of the mud very easily. I wanted to take advantage while the pulling was good!!
Well for all of you that are concerned, Randy got the water shot off and the valve shut so we now can have running water in the house and no water on the lawn. I am sure on his next day off we will have the sprinklers fixed. I am sure glad that I married someone that can fix just about anything.
Although some good came out of this, I am not eager to have a repeat. My one regret is that in all the caos I didn't think to take a picture.

So glad you posted on my blog so i could find yours. I too have been out pulling weeds and enjoying the sunshine. It is great to get all of them pulled and feel productive for once :-) I was just wondering about flood irrigation-you'll have to let me know how that works. ;-)
