"If The Savior Stood Beside Me"

Communication

"True disciples of Jesus Christ seek to follow His example in the ways they communicate. Their communications, both verbal and nonverbal, are to be kind, compassionate, and helpful, reflecting a love for Heavenly Father's children and an understanding that all people are brothers and sisters."  Unknown

I am setting a personal goal to learn to communicate with my family this way.  I find that I am not as kind and compassionate nor helpful at times with my family.  I wish to change that.  Someday I would like to be a great communicator.

Christ is the perfect example.  He was always soft spoken and kind.  I know that people weren't magically kinder to him, just the opposite in fact, so what is my excuse for impatience.  I don't have one that will hold water.  I have my imperfections and I admit them and desire to change them.

One of my favorite song, "If the Savior Stood Beside Me,"  is one that I will need to sing in my mind often, as I strive to create new habits and behaviors.

IF THE SAVIOR STOOD BESIDE ME...

If the Savior stood beside me, would I do the things I do?
Would I think of his commandments, and try harder to be true?
Would I follow his example? Would I live more righteously?
If I could see the Savior standing nigh, watching over me?

If the Saviour stood beside me, would I say the things I say?
Would my words be true and kind if he were never far away?
Would I try to share the gospel? Would I speak more reverently?
If I could see the Savior standing nigh, Watching over me?

He is always near me, though I do not see him there,
And because he loves me dearly, I am in his watchful care,
So I'll be the kind of person, that I know I'd like to be,
If I could see the Savior standing nigh, Watching over me.

I'll be the kind of person, that I know I'd like to be,
If I could see the Savior standing nigh, Watching Over Me!
