You Raise Me Up

Music has always spoken to me.  Some songs you love from the very first note, while others I have to hear a few times and then I fall in love.

I love when you hear a song and tears come to your eyes because you are so touched.  "You Raise Me Up", by Josh Groban is one of those.  Tonight at the Cheyenne's  orchestra recital the Chamber Orchestra played this song.  Immediately I felt peace and moisture in my eyes.  I sometimes ponder, "Am I just getting old?  Am I an emotional wreck? Do I need to take some vitamins?
"No",  Music is just such a special thing.  For me music is breath, it is a life sustaining necessity.  If fact multiple times a day, I will hear a word or passing phrase and it will bring a song to my head.  If it is just family around, I find myself actually singing the song, I know that that is strange.  I admit to being one of those drivers that are not talking to themselves but rather singing along with the radio.  I do get interesting looks sometimes.

I grew up in a very musical home.  My Dad plays multiple instruments, "by ear", and writes songs and sings like an angel.  In fact one of my fondest childhood memories is playing, "name that tune", with Dad.  I loved it, it was a game that it didn't matter if you were the little sister, you could win.  Who doesn't like to win?

I love all kinds of music.  Music cements memories.  I love when I hear music from my past and automatically the memory becomes so vivid.  You fall in love again.  You laugh and remember thinks you had forgotten.  Music is so powerful it seems to trigger something in our minds that activates our memories.  For example, what do you think of when you hear the "Top Gun Anthem"?  Or what about the theme song from "Titanic"?   I bet right know you are thinking of those songs that have a lot of meaning to you.

Sing on!!!
