Diesel is now just under $5 a gallon. Wow!
Is there an end to this or are we just getting started? I wonder if America is ready for the drastic price hikes that are eminent? Everything we buy is trucked in from somewhere. Those trucks require diesel to run. Ouch!
As a member of the transportation community, I am probably more aware than some the effect that prices are having on the transportation company. A big truck gets 5 miles to the gallon. So now trucks are paying a dollar for every mile they go. That is going to hurt our economy tremendously. I read recently that for every dollar that oil is raised the airlines suffer something like a $40,000,000.00 dollar increase in their fuel bill. Now how is that for an increased fuel bill?
The fuel increase is already seeing its effect on our groceries. Today in Sam's club I noticed that 50lbs of rice was $30.00. I think I bought 50lbs from Lee Lee's Market a few months ago for $10 (maybe I remembered that wrong). If I am correct that is a 300% increase. Can we all afford for that to happen with everything?
This oil crisis has got to be curbed at some point, but what is that point and how far will it go? I am very nervous about the state of things. How did we let it get so bad. Were the signs not there? Did everyone turn a blind eye to the inevitable?
What can we do if anything?
