Monday Morning
After hearing about "Patty Perfect" yesterday, I thought "How did somebody get into my head and make a list of all the things I think I should be doing everyday, and I have obviously been failing at."
Only hearing it that way made it sound a little ridiculous.
I wonder where we come up with such high expectations: do we see others and assume that they do it all? I'm afraid that I do. I assume that many of the women I admire have it all together and are able to keep up with everything.
They always look put together.
I think the secret to reality checks is having sisters, and or girlfriends that you can be honest with. It seems when we share our expriences we find that we are not alone and that in fact we are very normal. Or maybe we find out that we have unrealistic expectations.
Unrealistic expectations that I have discovered:
Not everyone vaccuums their floors everyday.
The Laundry is not always done and perfectly put away.
Fridges are not fingerprint free.
Dinner is not always a well balanced meal.
Family home evening does not always run smoothly.
Brothers and Sisters are not always friends.
I do not always get 8 hours of sleep.
When I taught my children to clean up after themselves, I thougt they would.
I always thought I would be the patient and happy mom.
What I discovered instead is that I am here to learn, not to be "perfect" and live the "perfect" life.
That is Patty Perfect's life.
I am here to live Hazel's life. I have a great husband and 2 great children. I don't always have my laundry perfectly done. I am not always the most patient. I do not vaccuum everyday. Family home evenings are often rather interesting. My children feel that if I don't remind them that they can't pick up after themselves, and as far as meals go, let's just say, "Multiple Vitamins."
We Ladies have to stick together and keep each other grounded. Maybe there are some secrets we don't all know: quick healthy meals(that the kids will eat), how to get mascare out of carpet, a great housekeeper's phone number :-).
